There is nothing you can do with someone who doesn't want to see, especially when it's something you rather not accept. We want to control everything around us, perhaps because God put us in charge, but what we forget is that it is with Him that we can do much more for us and humanity.
We look away from the cross when it was the instrument of our salvation. It was in that sacrifice on the cross that all our faults and failings were nailed to set us free from sin.
When our loved ones embrace a cross voluntarily we are up on arms asking why in God's name they would do so. Their potential is immense and life could be so much easier and we forget a lifetime of talking and teaching about love, forgiveness, freedom, courage and how we should mirror God' love here on earth.
It's when you yield to the possibility that you might be wrong after all, that the scales drop off your eyes and your ears unplugged. Then everything and everyone talks to you, and you realize that it's God talking through them. Yes, I want to hear, even if it hurts me. The reason it hurts is because I'm letting go of my selfish plans and dreams and allowing God tell me what's best for my loved ones and me. Don't blame me, blame this flesh that constantly fights with my soul and try to create conflict between God and me. It's only by giving up that I gain His power and consolation; the strength to accept what I can't even comprehend.
